SPOONER — The Northwest Express are proud to announce their official elevation to the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC), marking a historic step forward for the organization, its players and the Spooner community. The NCDC represents Tier II junior hockey within the United States Premier Hockey League and is widely recognized as one of the premier development platforms in North America, providing a direct pathway to NCAA hockey and beyond. “This is a defining moment for our organization,” said Joe Dibble. “Elevating to the NCDC is not just a step up in competition, it’s a commitment to our players, our staff and our community that we are building something elite here in Spooner. We are focused on development, advancement and creating opportunities for our players to reach the next level.”
With the move to the NCDC, the Northwest Express will now compete against top Tier II talent across the country while continuing to emphasize their core mission: developing high-character athletes both on and off the ice. “This is about raising the standard,” Dibble added. “From the level of play, to exposure, to daily habits, everything elevates. Our players will now be in an environment designed to push them further, demand more and ultimately prepare them for collegiate hockey and life beyond the game.”
The transition further solidifies the Northwest Express as a premier destination for aspiring junior hockey players and strengthens the role of the Spooner Civic Center as a top-level hockey venue in the Northwest Wisconsin region. Beyond the ice, the organization remains deeply committed to the Spooner community, continuing its involvement in youth hockey development, mentorship and local engagement initiatives.
“This community has supported us from day one,” said Dibble. “Bringing Tier II hockey to Spooner is something everyone here can take pride in. This is just the beginning.”
